Jackson Lawlor – 17 (2016)

Two boys ran from the wilderness program SUWS located near Old Fort in North Carolina during the summer of 2016. While the program earlier has claimed the lives of 2 teenagers, they managed to escape from the wilderness to the civilisation. Unfortunately before they were able to connect to friends from back home they were arrested. Being arrested in connection with an escape from a wilderness program does however not mean that the situation is worse.

Yes, going to the local detention facility is the result. A conviction might be the result.

But access to legal representation is provided. A warm bed and meals are provided. Short to say. A setback but also improved living conditions.

We must pray that Jackson Lawlor are able to return to his homestate taking up the lifestyle he had before going to the program.

Kayla Sunray – 2010 (SUWS)

This 16 year old girl ran away together with teenager aged the same from the wilderness program where they were forcefully detained.

She was rather quickly recovered from the forest area where the wilderness program tormented the teenagers.

Whether she was forced to finish the program or allowed home we don’t know.

According to our research she is alive today unlike the number of teenagers who died while being forced to attend these kind of programs. SUWS have lost two teenagers who were sent to their program.

In 2010 two girls ran from the SUWS wilderness program in North Carolina. The area is hard to navigate in and the girls properly tried to follow the train tracks going through the area. Of course this approach is known by counselors and the local police who has a lot of cases involving runaways from wilderness programs.

They were discovered some days later and also returned alive to a life after unlike some of the previous students in wilderness programs.

SUWS has lost two students during their time in operation.

SUWS (The School of Urban and Wilderness Survival) one of the oldest wilderness programs in operation. It is part of what is left of Aspen Education Group. It is located in North Carolina. Two boys have lost their lives while being forced to participate in the program.

He escaped and was later found in his residence back home. If he was made to go back to the program is not clear right now. There seems to have been deaths in the family a few years before he was banished to the wilderness program.

Gage Duane Gersema – 2009 (Phoenix Outdoor)

Phoenix Outdoor was a wilderness program located in North Carolina next to SUWS operated by the same company.

The 16 year old boy ran from the program. It caused some concern because a 12 year old boy had died in the neighboring program from the West Nile Virus. He was however located some days later. Research on the Internet shows that he went back living a normal life as a young adult faced with challenges of the party life as many people his age are challenged with.

The wilderness program merge with SUWS – another wilderness program – some years later.
